Chuckle Brothers in catchphrase uproar

KIDS' TV favourites The Chuckle Brothers have been caught up in a rumpus over their catchphrase "To me to you".

Fans of Paul and Barry Elliot are fuming after an estate agent in Rotherham opened a business called Me To You Homes.

The slapstick duo, who have just completed filming their 20th series for the BBC, say some people thought they were selling houses.

The rumours grew even stronger when sponsorship boards went up at Rotherham United - where the duo are lifelong fans.

Barry said: "We've got no connection with the business, but I've had people coming up saying, 'Is it me?' and Paul's had them saying, 'Is it you?'.

"Some people think they've taken a liberty. But the catchphrase has done us proud so I hope it helps them as well.

"You can't patent a catchphrase and you can't stop people using it just because you're always saying it and you made it up."

Company director Jonathan Birks said he was pleased the Chuckle Brothers could see the funny side.

"We considered lots of different names before we started the business in Rotherham, but Me To You was perfect from our point of view because it describes perfectly what we do, passing homes from one person to another.

"I was a fan myself once, and we obviously didn't want to upset them in any way."
