CBBC's Blue Peter TV golf challenge tees off at Tapton - VIDEO

A LOCAL golf course played host to CBBC kids TV show Blue Peter - see our video.

Tapton Park Golf Course, in Chesterfield, one of four courses managed by Sheffield International Venues (SIV), was featured on the programme's regular 'Take Me On' challenge, where a talented child teaches their skills to one of Blue Peter's presenters.

The episode, showed 12-year-old Welsh and European golf champion Emily Boyman coaching Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton.

It culminated in a head to head challenge as the novice presenter tried out her newly acquired skills against top youngster Emily, from Pwllheli, North Wales, in a game of night golf, played over three holes with luminous balls and lit fairways.

Andy Carnall, golf manager for SIV, said: "It was fantastic to have the Blue Peter team here at Tapton. The challenge was great fun and despite all the coaching, with a handicap of 14.5, there was only going to one winner and that was Emily!"

Tapton Park Golf Club, which is a pay and play facility, is currently undergoing a 170,000 refurbishment project and is one of three clubs nationally to be nominated for the GolfMark - Club of the Year Award 2008.

Blue Peter presenter Helen Skelton said: "I had a brilliant time at Tapton. The course is absolutely beautiful with fantastic scenery. Some people think golf is an older person's sport but I don't think it is at all. I'd recommend Tapton for anyone that wants to take up golf, it's really welcoming."
