Cancer patient's hair transplant thanks to NHS

CANCER victim Amie Cameron's confidence was dealt a blow when chemotherapy and radiotherapy left her with an embarassing bald patch.

Amie, aged 21, formerly from Rotherham, was diagnosed with brain and spinal cancer when she was aged just 11.

The aggressive treatment she went through meant that by her late teens she had very thin hair - and was finally left with a bald patch at the front of her hairline.

Now Amie has been given a massive confidence boost after undergoing hair transplant treatment by one of the country's leading experts whose patients include soap stars.

Amie, who now lives in Sussex, said: "The patch was right at the front of my head and was so noticeable, I hated it."

Amie - who now works as a nurse in the neo-natal department at the Brighton and Sussex County Hospital - was referred to Farjo Medical Centre in Manchester and was given a hair transplant on the NHS.

She said: "I'm thrilled with the result and am now keen to go back for more treatment. After suffering such a trauma at a young age, and then having to cope with this socially embarrassing issue, I have come through the experience stronger and am now keen to care for other people."

The centre has earned an international reputation and has treated a celebritis including actor Shaun Williamson, who played Barry Evans in BBC One soap Eastenders.
