Cadets enjoy week-long adventure
AIR, sea and marine cadets from Barnsley enjoyed a week-long adventure staying on board the Royal Fleet Auxillary ship Fort Victoria.
The ship, which is affiliated to Barnsley, is currently in Portsmouth and provided a temporary berth for the air cadets from 148 Squadron Barnsley ATC and the sea and marine cadets.
The youngsters took part in activities and visits which included a trip to RAF Odiham in Hampshire.
There they were given a lecture about sea survival equipment, the chance to sit in the cockpit of a Chinook helicopter and the opportunity to learn some firefighting techniques from the base's dedicated fire crew.
The cadets also visited HMS Victory, the Royal Navy Museum, The Royal Marine Museum and the Submarine Museum.
Organiser Caroline Devonport said: "It was an excellent week, with all the cadets and staff having a fantastic time. Our thanks to the officers and crew of RFA Fort Victoria for a great week."
