Butchers claim success in regional banger awards
DONCASTER residents are spoilt for choice when it comes to best bangers.
That's because two borough butchers have been crowned champion sausage makers!
Rob Inman, of D J Fenton, and Daniel Wilkinson, of Wilkinsons Butchers, were both awarded a category champion title at the BPEX regional roadshow for butchers in Harrogate.
There were 55 butchers presenting 210 products for judging and 12 champions were chosen.
Rob, aged 20, from Tickhill-based D J Fenton, was awarded winner of the Young Sausage Maker class on the night with his 'Pork, Cranberry and Rosemary Sausage'.
Daniel, 29, who works at Wilkinsons Butchers at its shops in Bawtry and Doncaster Market, was also a winner in the Traditional Pork Sausages section.
Rob said: "I'm really pleased and enjoy taking part in competitions. The sausage recipe is one that we currently use but I tweaked it a touch for the event."
Daniel said: "We pride ourselves on using the best of everything. We source fantastic quality pigs from just five miles away – you really couldn't get any closer – and this is a real comfort to customers."
