Business park gets go-ahead

DEVELOPERS have been granted permission for a new business park at Blaxton Quarry, despite initial concerns over access.

Doncaster Council granted outline scheme for the 25-acre site, off Mosham Road, although parish councils feared road safety was being put at risk.

The scheme proposes a petrol station and a mixture of office, warehouses and industrial units, plus a petrol station, on the site.

Wildlife areas – home to species including sand martins – are to be protected under the planning permission, granted this week by the authority's planning committee.

The site is currently used for storage and processing of gravel and sand.

Auckley Parish Council had warned that access arrangements for the planned scheme would affect road safety.

But they were altered by the developer after it held talks with highways officials, and the council believed the changes made the scheme acceptable.

Blaxton Parish Council has also raised concerns over the original entrance to the site.

Nicola Howarth, representing the developer's agents DLP Planning Consultants, said: "We believe there are central benefits. The site will retain a large area of ecology within the site and the landscaped areas.

"There will also be recreation areas for employees working on the site.

"We think it will be a desirable place for people to work and contribute to jobs and investment in Doncaster.

"We have had consultation to try to resolve objections through the design and layout."

Doncaster Council approved the plans but has ordered that checks must be run for any contamination risks on the land before work starts, and if any contamination was found, work must stop.

Another condition attached to the scheme will mean the developer has to build a bus shelter on nearby Gatehouse Lane, to improve public transport access to the site, which is close to Robin Hood Airport.
