Boys in blue set for football clash

A TEAM of Spanish police officers will show off their soccer skills when they visit Doncaster for a charity tournament.

The fixture at Doncaster Keepmoat Stadium will see the cops from the Costa Blanca take on South Yorkshire Police.

The event has been set up by Pc Steve Ford and the aim is to raise money for Bluebell Wood Hospice and MacMillan Cancer Care.

For many it will be their first trip to England and Steve hopes they enjoy it.

He said: "We are all playing in the tournament for charity and yes, both sides would like to come out winners, but it is more important that we enjoy raising money for our causes.

"For the last two years a team of South Yorkshire Police Officers have visited the Costa Blanca in aid of a local cancer charity, AECC, and helped to raise €4,000."

The South Yorkshire Police band will kick off proceedings by playing the national anthems of both countries.

South Yorkshire Police teams will include officers from Doncaster, Sheffield Hammerton Road and Operational Support Services.

Children from Wickersley Youth JFC and Doncaster Belles will take part in a mini tournament. There will also be a raffle with prizes including signed football shirts.

The Spanish officers will also be taken to watch a 'public order demonstration' at South Yorkshire's training facility at Manvers.
