Bank customers in sign language project

CUSTOMERS at a Doncaster bank will be learning their own names in sign language next week as part of a project linked to Doncaster Deaf Trust's new youth trampoline project.

Customers visiting the High Street branch of HSBC from October 5 to 8 can find out how to "sign" their names and make a donation to the scheme. The aim is to manage behaviour through exercise therapy, promoting balance, sensory abilities and communication skills.

HSBC has already bought a brand new 1,600 trampoline for the Leger Way school and the Trust is now hoping to use money raised from the latest event for a therapy coach, who will support students through their treatment.

John Weston, fundraiser at the Doncaster Deaf Trust said: "We are thrilled HSBC in the Community is getting involved in projects like this one, which aim to help young people with hearing difficulties in imaginative ways.

"On behalf of the trust, we would like to thank the bank for its continuing support and are looking forward to the week which will be great fun and inspire many people to think about taking up sign language as another avenue of communication."

Julie Bowler, of Doncaster HSBC, said: "We were interested in working with the Deaf Trust on this project because it has extremely high value in terms of learning, therapy and enjoyment. By giving members of the public an opportunity to learn to sign their own names, it will also increase the level of awareness of sign language which is an extremely important communication skill."
