Balloon ride joy to raise cash

CHARITY fundraiser Jane Stapleton is taking to the skies on a flight to mark the 40th anniversary of a life-changing operation.

Jane, aged 57, is taking a hot air balloon ride on the anniversary of the operation she had aged 17 to remove a brain tumour.

The operation saved her life but left her partially sighted and partially deaf.

Jane will set off on the flight from The Dome later this month to raise cash to start up a local group of DeafBlind UK which will offer specialist support to deaf blind people.

Jane, of Humber Close, Skellow, said: "All deaf blind people are not as fortunate as me. I have my family and I can see a little bit and with the help of hearing aids I can hear.

"This group is much-needed so that they have people to go in and actually sit with them."

Last year Jane took to the skies to raise more than 1,000 to help cover the costs of publishing her autobiography My Life in Their Hands as a talking book for the blind.

To sponsor Jane balloon ride on Friday October 24 call 01302 723905 or send a donation to Jane Stapleton, Care of Humber Close Community Centre, Skellow, Doncaster, DN6 8JP.
