ASIDELINES: Oh Carol - guide wouldn't believe it
NEIL Sedaka was good value at the City Hall on Tuesday with stories as well as songs.
When he visited the Great Wall of China his guide ended the visit with a rendition of Sedaka's big hit Oh Carol.
"Thank you for singing my song," the star said afterwards.
The guide looked at him. "That isn't your song, it's Neil Sedaka's song," he said.
"But I'm Neil Sedaka."
"If you're Neil Sedaka then I'm Elvis Presley," the guide replied.
How about Sheffield's best?
SHEFFIELD City Council is urging local businesses to support each other, but that's fallen on deaf ears at the City Hall. It's got a bar with no beer. Real beer, that is.
There are no pumps and the only bitter is tinny Tetley's in cans if lager's not your thing.
Perhaps they have one of the local breweries' excellent beers in bottles? Er no, just kiddie fizz.
The wine's nothing to write home about, either. Must do a lot better.
A rose to honour comedienne
THIS is the Linda Smith disease resistant hybrid tea rose which makes its first appearance at the South Yorkshire and District Rose Society's annual rose show at the Botanical Gardens this Sunday.
It was developed by a member in honour of the comedienne who forged her career in local clubs before finding fame in London and on Radio 4. The show runs from 2-5pm and is free.
