ASIDELINES: Neck wesh? Gerroutonnit...

IT'S a cracking read but it's causing no small amount of confusion in The Star Shop.

That's Graham Shepherd's book Get Thi Neck Weshed, about life in Parson Cross.

It seems customers are loathe to ask for it for fear staff will think their hygiene habits are being questioned.

"Some people have said they don't know how to say it without offending us," laughs Jackie Capper on the desk.

Just imagine the confusion when Gee'or Ruwerin - that's 'cease your crying' to non-Sheffielders - by another Parson Cross writer, Steve Bush, is released later this year.

Buddy seance

THE spirit of Buddy Holly will be brought to life - possibly - during a seance at a Sheffield city centre pub.

A trained medium (or at least a DJ with a ouija board) will call the ghost of the bespectacled rock legend, telling him "don't be square", come and party at The Washington, in Fitzwilliam Street.

"We're not convinced he'll turn up," says promoter Rob Lee. "But we'll still be playing plenty of his records and stuff inspired by him anyway."

There will also be a one minute's silence at 1am - the time on February 3 1959 when Holly was killed in a aeroplane crash. Pay your respects on February 2 from 9pm.

Beer up cheer

BEER news and Acorn Brewery, based in Wombwell, Barnsley, has announced sales up by 25 per cent in 2010.

Clearly the economic downturn hasn't dampened people's thirst for a good South Yorkshire pint. That's worth drinking to.
