ASIDELINES: Delicious batch of fruit is mango-ing

TO Nirmal's, the Indian restaurant on Glossop Road, to discus the mango season with Parshotam Gupta, husband of Nirmal.

This is a pleasant duty as it always results in the Diary taking home some mangoes, the Alphonso, "champagne of mangoes," according to Parshotam.

"We're coming to the end of the Alphonso season. They're from Mumbai. The next deliveries will be from Pakistan which are not as good," he says loyally. The Guptas are Indian Indian restaurant bosses.

Nirmal is in the gym pumping iron. It is just as well as she is a self-confessed mango addict. "How can you sleep when you know there is a mango in the fridge?" she once declared.

The Guptas recommend mango as the perfect end to a meal at their restaurant and, if asked, Parshotam will demonstrate the technique of cutting them up into little 'hedgehogs.'

The current batch is particularly good, he says. "You will feel you have eaten something," he says.

MP exposed after camera query

LAST month the Diary wondered where all those "newspaper quality" pictures were after Hillsborough MP Angela Smith spent 536 on a snazzy digital camera bunged on her expenses - twice as much as other MPs charged.

There certainly weren't any on her website's image gallery. The last was captioned "Angela with fish" in October, 2007.

She must have taken it to heart because her site is now peppered with pictures of her with constituents.

But Angela and the fish have gone.
