Asidelines: Albert was in a league of his own
NOW here's a football poser all the way from New Brunswick, Canada, about a long-forgotten Sheffield Wednesday footballer.
Albert Hall played 17 leagues games for Sheffield Wednesday in 1982-3.
But Rik Hall has a medal belonging to grandfather Albert inscribed 'Liverpool Champions 1891-2'.
He wants to know how his grandad came to earn the medal in the season before he joined the Owls.
If it's a league medal then the division was won by Everton that year. Liverpool had not yet joined the league.Rik has drawn a blank. Can anyone help? Email hall@unb.ca to contact Rik.
It Asda be some mistake?
FINE travel editor we have here at The Star: he can't even navigate his way to the bread counter.
Bill Auckland and his mates were cruising on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal when they pulled into Leeds canal basin.
Bill spotted a familiar Asda sign, and, knowing they were short of a couple of essentials like red wine and bread, leapt ashore. Funny sort of supermarket, he thought, as he dashed into a huge lobby, full of smartly-suited executives, and not a checkout in sight.
Meanwhile, those executives were wondering why a dishevelled bloke in cut-off jeans and faded T-shirt, and carrying a menacing-looking windlass in his belt, had blundered into Asda's showpiece corporate headquarters building.
