Another chip off the old fish block

IAIN Pringle, the man who is a dab hand at giving chip shops names you can't forget, has done it again.

He and business partner Tony Singh have taken over a former dog grooming parlour on Commonside, Walkey, and turned it into a brand new chippie, New Cod on the Block. Iain, whose previous efforts have included Northern Sole, Man Fryday, Battersea Cod's Home and the classic Codrophenia, was previously at the Obvious Plaice in Dore, now sold on.

The 60-year-old says: "I keep saying I'm going to retire but I'm not doing 80 hours a week as at Dore. I'm here part time with Tony's wife Cindy."

Iain and Tony were once batter rivals when they fought cod wars in Broomhill in the 90s but are now the best of pals.
