2,000 real ale lovers expected for CAMRA event

ORGANISERS are expecting 2,000 real ale lovers and two up and coming indie bands to turn out for Doncaster's 2008 beer festival.

This year's event, organised by Campaign for Real Ale, will have two of Doncaster's best known bands on stage which it is run at Doncaster College's The Hub venue.

It is the second year the event is being held at the Hub, at Doncaster Waterfront, with more than 80 real ales on offer, including many from local Yorkshire breweries, as well as an array of traditional cider, perry and continental beers.

And as an added attraction, entertainment has been arranged for the Friday and Saturday sessions, when up-and-coming indie band The Wallbirds booked to appear on the Friday. On Saturday, another Doncaster band Strange Triangle will return to the stage to play an early evening set.

Beer festival organiser and CAMRA membership secretary Ian Jones said: "The festival aims to celebrate a great British tradition and to honour the work of brewers from all over Yorkshire and other parts of the UK, who are producing some of the country's finest real ales.

"We are hoping this will be the biggest and best one yet and are looking forward to seeing real ale fans from all parts of the region gathered together to enjoy the different styles of beers, ciders and perries.

"Our volunteers work tirelessly throughout the year to promote real ale, craft breweries and the traditional pub, to try to ensure they have the healthy future they deserve. The festival is the culmination of all this work and it always proves to be a hugely popular event for both seasoned real ale drinkers and novices alike."

This year's festival starts 6pm on Thursday, and runs 11am to 11pm on Friday March 28 and Saturday March 29.
