£5.2m cuts confirmed

CUTS worth more than £5 million from Doncaster Council's budgets have been confirmed.

The planned 5.2 million reductions were rubber stamped by the authority at its latest meeting, and are expected to mean 15 job losses.

Mayor Peter Davies apologised when the plans were backed by his cabinet to those who would be losing their jobs.

Coun Mick Jameson, chairman of the Labour group on the council, the largest party on the authority, said there was no alternative but to make the cuts.

He said: "It is not good news but we have tried to ensure services and protect jobs as far as we can.

"We have tried to do this as sensitively as possible. We are trying to keep job losses to a minimum, but this is 5.2 million that has been taken away from the council."

The biggest cuts are going in the council's development department, which is losing 4.1 million. It includes cuts for job creation and training schemes.

Adult services lost 250,000.
