Explore coastal pleasures in the home county
The Yorkshire Coast is much more than just a place to paddle. And it's only a couple of hours away from Sheffield.

Scarborough Art Gallery has 1500 works on two floors of an Italianate nineteenth-century villa on a beautiful crescent.
Further North a visit to the Staithes Gallery will show why so many young impressionists flocked here in the early 20th century.
At the Studio of John Freeman in Whitby you can see the resident artist at work.
The Filey Sea Front Sculpture Trail involves a wander along the prom, enjoying artworks inspired by Filey's natural heritage.
Or you can make your own discovery by following the Captain James Cook Heritage Trail. Visit quiet market towns and villages where he lived, and the rugged coastline from which he made his voyage on the Endeavour in 1768.
Visit the Captain Cook School Room Museum in Great Ayton where he spent his youth. Enjoy a Cooks Boyhood four- mile circular walk. A detour to the quaint village of Staithes affords wonderful views of the rugged coast, with the Captain Cook and Staithes Heritage Centre.
Climb up Whitby's west cliff and look out to sea alongside the bronze statue of Cook.
Whitby's Captain Cook Memorial Museum features the port's maritime history.
