Mexborough sporting legends Dennis Priestley and Tommy Joyce unveiled the newly-refurbished Montagu Arms at a VIP launch.

Over 100 people attended the launch, where local residents could be wowed by a local magician and be the first to see the pub’s new look following a £400,000 joint investment.

The pub, which is owned by Punch Taverns and run by Ray and Rita Dowen, has undergone substantial redevelopment and now boasts a new stylish interior and fresh décor.

As well as the brighter interior design, the pub also boasts a new sports area complete with multiple TV screens showing live sports.

Those looking for a bite to eat are also catered for, with pies available.

Ray, licensee of the Montagu, said that it was important that the pub kept its local identity within the community: “I believe we have created a great environment for all and that is really paying off with the comments we have received from our customers. They love the new décor and the fact that there is always Sky Sports being shown.

“There was a great turn out at the launch, and it was fantastic to have darts champion Dennis Priestley and boxing legend Tommy Joyce open the pub as the home of sport in Mexborough. We will be showing every World Cup match.”

“We have had great support from Punch Taverns and the local residents in re-launching the pub and I hope that the Montagu can go from strength to strength from here.”

Punch Taverns’ Partnership Development Manager, John Laite adds: “We’re delighted to invest in sites such as this and see how the pub can become the hub of the community.

“Ray, Rita and their team have some great plans to deliver a fantastic customer experience and they have our full support. I look forward to working in partnership with Ray and Rita going forward.”

Punch is a leading pub company in the UK with around 4,000 leased and tenanted pubs nationwide.
