Doncaster businesses are being invited to show their support for armed forces personnel by signing up to a Heroes Welcome scheme.
The scheme is intended to see shops and businesses showing support for troops, sailors and airmen by offering a warm welcome, service upgrade, special acknowledgement or discount.
Mayor Peter Davies said: “It is entirely up to each individual shop or business what, if any, discount or upgrade is offered. Whatever their offer, they will be given a Heroes Welcome logo to display at their premises to demonstrate that, in Doncaster, the efforts of our Armed Forces are appreciated.
“I am sure I can count on our thriving retail community and local businesses to sign up to the Heroes Welcome scheme.”
Bus tours firm Wilfreda Beehive has signed up and will be offering members of the forces a five per cent discount on holiday tours.
Sue Scholey, managing director of Wilfreda Beehive, said: “We had no hesitation in signing up for this scheme on Armed Forces Day.
“Wilfreda Beehive operate holiday tours all around the UK and Europe and are delighted to offer five per cent discount on all holiday tours within its Group, including Eagre Coaches and Clarkson Holidays, to members of our Armed Forces of whom we are so very proud.”
