Two young Sheffield dancers will waltz on to television screens in a new documentary which lifts the lid on the competitive world of juvenile ballroom dancing.
Adorable dancing partners Max Draper, aged 10, and Olivia King, 11, will appear on Baby Ballroom, which airs tomorrow.
It follows the dancing duo, alongside several other couples, behind the scenes of competitive ballroom dancing.
The pair are no stranger to the limelight after appearing on hit show Strictly Come Dancing and BBC Radio – and are now preparing for the extra fame the show will bring.
Max’s mum Hayley, who runs Drapers Dance school in Beighton with husband Scott, said the pair got involved in the show through their friend Warren Bullock, whose dance school in Wolverhampton is the focus of the TV show.
She said: “They got involved with Baby Ballroom after our friend Warren Bullock suggested them to Channel 5.
“The show focuses on his school in Wolverhampton and he knows Olivia and Max well as one of the country’s top under 12 couple.
“Not only that but Warren and Scott have a long history having known each other as competitors in their youth and even inviting each other to their weddings.
“Warren is trusted by us as a fellow professional and often casts an eye on Max and Olivia to give his advice and opinion from his Wolverhampton dance centre.”
Barlborough Hall pupil Max and Olivia, who attends St John Fisher Catholic Primary, started dancing together on New Year’s Eve 2015.
They train six days a week and compete on a Sunday. Training is mostly at Drapers Dance with weekly visits to Nottingham and often to Birmingham for additional coaching.
Max, from Beighton, and Olivia, from Charnock, have just returned from the British Open Championships where they were among the top 24 juvenile couples from around the world. They were crowned Great British winners in ballroom and came second in Latin.
Hayley said: “They started dancing together as Olivia has always trained at our dance centre.
“When watching the British National Championships in November 2015, Max watched Olivia make the final and was adamant he wanted to start dancing to a competitive level too.
“A few months later when Olivia was without a dance partner due to an age difference split we asked her to help him train.
“It wasn’t long before it was clear they’d make a great couple and they haven’t looked back since.”
n Baby Ballroom is on freeview channel 5Star tomorrow at 9pm.
