A group of Dronfield children are world champions after beating the competition in a street dance contest.

Youngsters from Dancedaze won several categories at the UDO World Street Dance Championships in Glasgow.

The studio, based at Stonelow School in Callywhite Lane, had wins across the board. Group RJ Juniors won the under-14 novice category while Dark Cloud Crew beat competitors in the under-10 novice section, both groups becoming world champions in their sections.

Nine-year-old Holly Kennie, from Fletcher Avenue, Dronfield, was one of the members of Dark Cloud Crew.

Dad Gordon Kennie said: “We are very proud. She has been practising sometimes three or four times a day.

“They have all worked really hard. Some of the judges have been involved in Got To Dance and shows like that and are people with a lot of knowledge.”

Other successes included The Rhythmic Jokers, who came seventh in the intermediate category for under-14s.

Dancedaze owner Richard Hawke said: “The competition is stronger in the older categories so just to place is amazing.” The Business also placed fourth in the advanced under-14s category, while two duos - a pairs of two solo dancers - came first and second in the intermediate under-14s category.

Richard added: “This is the biggest championships in the UK, it’s absolutely massive.

“Over 30 countries attended and there was some amazing talent there.

“Just to be associated with it is amazing.

“I think when we all get together again it’s going to be party time.”
