It was all pas de deux, pirouettes and pointe work at Cast in Doncaster at the weekend.
A three-hour open day was held by the Academy of Northern Ballet which invited along children aged between nine and 13 in a search to find the borough’s future stars.
Youngsters got to explore their passion for dancing with the help of professional trainers and it was also a chance to meet Academy staff and find out more about the training programmes on offer.
Faye Cardwell, academy programmes manager at Northern Ballet, said: “The Academy of Northern Ballet is one of the leading classical ballet training schools in the UK.
“Our focus is on recognising talent and nurturing our students to give them the technical training and mentoring they need to develop as dancers.
“We held the open day in Doncaster so that young dancers in the area could find out first hand about the world-class ballet training available to them in their own county.
“We wanted to encourage nine- to 13-year-old boys and girls to come along with their parents, to meet us and to find out about our different training programmes entail, build their confidence and discover how they can further their passion for ballet.
“We were really impressed with the amount of interest we had for the open day in Doncaster.
“All the participants worked really hard and we hope to see some of them at the audition next month.
“The facilities at Cast were amazing and we will definitely be back next year.”
The Academy of Northern Ballet is the official school of Leeds-based Northern Ballet, one of the UK’s foremost professional ballet companies, and specialises in offering a holistic approach to teaching, nurturing and inspiring the professional dancers of the future.
As the only recognised centre for advanced training in the UK specialising in classical ballet, the Academy of Northern Ballet hosted the open day in Doncaster to entice young dancers to audition for its professional CAT training programme which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014.
Graduates from the Northern Ballet’s CAT programme have gone on to full-time vocational training at top training schools including the Royal Ballet Upper School, English National Ballet School and Central School of Ballet.
In addition to Doncaster, open days will also be held in Harrogate on February 2 and Leeds on February 16.
