A South Yorkshire ballerina studying at a Russian ballet school is jumping for joy after a local shop sponsored her.
Eighteen-year-old Tala Lee-Turton, from Barnsley, who is in her second year of studying with the Bolshoi Ballet Academy in Moscow, has been offered £1,500 by Wilko, Wombwell, towards the cost of her tuition fees.
It is the second year running the store has sponsored her.
Tala moved to in Moscow in August 2012 to start her four-year training programme with one of the world’s most renowned classical ballet schools.
She is the only the ninth Briton to be awarded a place at the school in its 239-year history.
Sharon Cullingworth, Wilko store manager, said: “It’s always inspiring to hear about the amazing talent we have in our community and the Local Stars Fund is our way of helping them on their journey, whether it’s volunteer work, sporting activities or nurturing their skills.
“Tala is a fantastic representative for our town and we were happy to help her for a second year.
“We hope the money goes a long way in supporting her ballet dream in Russia.”
Tala said: “I’m incredibly grateful.”
