Artists hailed the ‘magical’ atmosphere of a Sheffield event as its tenth anniversary celebration gets off to a soggy start today.
Downpours were no deterrent for painters, sculptors and sketchers who started setting up for Art in the Gardens at Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens from 7am yesterday.
Around 350 artists are exhibiting at the decade-old event, which takes place over this weekend and kicked off with a special preview evening.
Sheffield-born Helen Parsley has taken part in every Art in the Gardens - including one year where her tent blew off in heavy wind - and said it was always a ‘favourite’.
Helen, whose work starred in promotional material for the show this year, added: “I do about 18 shows a year and this is my favourite. It just has magic, it’s a lovely atmosphere and is just a perfect setting.
“One year our tent had blown away in the night - but they had flimsier tents in those days!”
