A SHEFFIELD volunteer has written poetry for charity.

Kevin Hanson, who has manned shelters for ASSIST Sheffield to aid destitute asylum seekers, said writing the book was also a distraction from his own battle with bowel cancer.

The 64-year-old, of Carr Road, Walkley, has raised £700 so far by selling his book and at a launch event.

Kevin, who had an operation before Christmas and requires no further treatment, said: “There are a number of poems about asylum.”

Goodbye to the Tiger and other poems, costs £7 from 0114 296 0250.
