THE sound of live music will echo through Sheffield’s Weston Park thanks to three enterprising students.

City and Yorkshire bands will play today and tomorrow in the park’s recently-restored Victorian bandstand after Sam Wherrett, Tom Mooney and Sam Middleton decided to take a chance with their Sheffield Hallam University business start-up grants and launch the Big Live Event company.

Sam Wherrett, aged 29, said: “This is the first time we have run an event and we are hoping for 3,000 to 6,000 people to turn up over the two days. We’ve put quite a bit of our own cash into it so it’s make or break for us really.”

Six bands will play today from 11.30am including Sheffield outfit The Clench.

The show starts at noon tomorrow.
