The artist behind a series of best-selling children’s books is set to prove a big draw when his work comes to Doncaster next year.

Nick Sharratt, the man behind the instantly recognisable illustrations for Jacqueline Wilson’s Tracy Beaker books, is now the subject of a new colourful, humorous and hands-on touring exhibition.

Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants – The Illustrated World of Nick Sharratt, will be on the loose at The Point next spring and summer and is set to prove a smash hit with youngsters.

The Point in South Parade will be the first gallery in Yorkshire to host the exhibition, and is one of at least six museums and galleries around the country which will host the well-known characters.

The exhibition will be in town from Saturday, March 7 to Saturday, June 13.

Exploring Nick’s passion for drawing, from childhood to his current status as an internationally renowned illustrator and author, the show will feature many of the well-known characters that Nick has illustrated over the years.

His creations including Tracy Beaker, Daisy, Lizzie Zipmouth, Hetty Feather, Caveman Dave, Pirate Pete and Billy Bonkers, as well as a host of animals, and vast quantities of food and clothing.

Visitors will be able to immerse themselves in Nick’s world, as they enter a recreation of his studio filled with the tools of his trade and the stages involved in creating one of his illustrations.

Those who go along will also be invited to try their hand at a range of different drawing techniques using different materials.

They will also be given the opportunity to create their own digital ‘Sharracter’.
