It was a very surprising view indeed for this photographer who captured the Northern Lights at a Derbyshire beauty spot.

The photographer pointed his camera towards the skies at Surprise View, near Hathersage, during this week’s severe solar storm. The storm contributed to the aurora borealis making a rare southerly appearance. It is the strongest solar storm to reach Earth since autumn 2013.
