A wordsmith from Woodseats has penned her way to the top of a national creative writing competition.

Kate Beeden, aged 34, entered a competition run by the The Reading Agency which asked would-be authors to submit short stories inspired by the word ‘shine’.

Kate’s entry, The Wedding Ring, was selected as a winner from a large volume of submissions and will be available to read shortly on publisher Pan Macmillan’s website, The Window Seat.

In addition, Kate will attend a day-long writing workshop with bestselling author Joanna Rees, where she will be given guidance on how to get her writing published.

Kate, who writes under the pen name Katey Lovell, said: “I’m delighted to have my writing recognised in such a large competition.

“I decided 2014 was the year to really work towards my dream of publication. I hope this is one step closer to achieving that goal.”
