SHEFFIELD College photojournalist Joel Goodman snapped up a top prize at a national awards night - presented by veteran South Yorkshire broadcaster Sir Michael Parkinson.

Joel, aged 36, won the student image of the year in the National Council for the Training of Journalists’ awards for excellence.

Joel, who completed the press photography and journalism course at Norton College earlier this year, is now working as a freelance photojournalist.

Based in Manchester, Joel worked in retail before setting his sights on press photography.

He said: “I’m chuffed to bits. It’s really flattering to have won this award.

“The course has been great. It has a strong reputation, being highly regarded among most press photographers and has provided a terrific opportunity for me.”
