Youngsters are invited to a special hero-themed event at the Peace Gardens on Thursday to celebrate books.

Sheffield City Council is hosting the event for National Bookstart Week on Thursday, June 12, between 10am and noon.

Children are invited to come along dressed as their favourite superhero to coincide with the event’s theme

Rhymes, storytelling and hero-themed activities will be featured throughout the morning and Library Bear is also set to make an appearance for the My Hero event.

A special version of Harper Collins’ Super Duck, by Jez Alborough, will be given as a free gift to each child who takes part.

The event is part of the city’s celebration for National Bookstart Week, which runs until June 15.

It aims to encourage more children to read and become interested in books at a young age.

Coun Mazher Iqbal, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for communities and public health, and the Lord Mayor, Coun Peter Rippon, will be attending.
