Two of the oldest established antiques and fine art auctioneers and valuers in Sheffield are joining forces.

Sheffield Auction Gallery and AE Dowse and Son are to merge, based at Sheffield Auction Gallery’s modern saleroom complex in Heeley.

Liz Dashper, director of Sheffield Auction Gallery, said bidders would be able to enjoy 270 years of combined experience in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art saleroom.

“AE Dowse and Son are an old school company, with an enormous folio of professional clients, and our newly expanded saleroom is perfectly placed with all the fast, effective and efficient processing required by a modern auction house to maximise the sale potential by attracting national and international buyers,” she said.

AE Dowse and Son is currently based on Scotland Street, started by Arthur Edward Dowse in 1915.

Michael Dowse, third generation of Dowse auctioneers and managing director of AE Dowse and Son, said: “This is a company that is looking forward with an ambition and creativity my clients will applaud - I am really delighted about the merger.

“My grandfather will be spinning in his grave with excitement!”
