If you went down to the woods in Sheffield you may have got a big surprise...
For dotted around Storrs Wood in Stannington among the trees and wildlife were a series of striking sculptures by artist Andrew Vickers, who let visitors into his workspace as part of the annual Open Studios event.
The wood is privately owned by Andrew and is not generally open to the public.
But the artist joined more than 100 creative types demonstrating their skills as part of Open Studios, now in its 16th year.
Andrew said his opening over the Bank Holiday weekend went ‘brilliantly’.
“I’ve had several hundred visitors,” he said.
“It lifts your spirits when you spend so many weeks and months working alone. It’s been a great success and I’m really proud to be part of it.”
Andrew said he mainly works in stone – hence his business’ name, Stoneface Sculpture – but also makes pieces from recycled materials, such as a figure of a woman made from old DVDs.
“People don’t really get involved in art. I suppose it’s perceived as highbrow, so it’s nice for people to be let into this world and to see what happens,” he said.
