When it came to fashion in 2011, us Britons stuck to home-grown designers – and a lot of it was thanks to Kate Middleton.

Five of the top ten designers we searched-for online were British, according to internet boutique ShopStyle.

We were loyal to Ted Baker, Burberry, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Paul Smith.

Our patriotism was probably due to our love of all things Kate Middleton.

ShopStyle saw a 100 per cent rise in online shoppers on the day of the Royal Wedding.

As Kate paraded her Alexander McQueen wedding dress, women searched for frocks inspired by the Duchess.

In fact, McQueen jumped into the top 40 search terms as soon as it was revealed the bride’s wedding dress was to be designed by the UK fashion house. Its dresses remained in the Top 10 searches across the year, proving just how influential Kate’s classic style and elegance is.

Shannon Edwards of ShopStyle said: “The Royal Wedding was an incredible event for fashion and began our adoption of all things British, from designer labels to high street stores.”

Top fashion searches included the maxi dress, the jumpsuit and the one-shoulder dress, all Seventies styles taking their turn in the spotlight again.
