Russian State Ballet and Opera House promise to burst on to the stage tomorrow with a new and exciting performance of The Nutcracker “with all the colour, enthusiasm and vibrancy that one would expect.”

Tchaikovsky’s famous composition is one of the most popular ballets in the world and usually a firm favourite around Christmas time.

The story is of a little girl, Clara, whose gift of a nutcracker doll is the beginning of a magical journey when the toy comes to life.

Accompanying this performance is an orchestra of more than 30.

Producer Alexej Ignatow talked about what he think makes his company so unique:

“I know that there are many companies that come together just to tour in UK but we only focus on working with established theatres in the Russian Federation.

“With Russian ballet, you get passion! This year, we have chosen to work with the world-famous Russian State Ballet and Opera Theatre of Komi that has delighted audiences since 1958, and are renowned for their ballet and opera masterpieces.

“The Russian State Ballet and Opera House was founded to represent quality and passion for ballet and opera at the highest level.

“We pride ourselves in bringing over from Russia a new theatre company and production every year, with much that is original to them. That way people get a new experience.”

The show is at the Chesterfield theatre at 7.30pm tomorrow. Box office: at the venue, online at or call 01246 345222.
