Sheffield Hallam University drama society are performing new scripts in this three-day theatre festival.
After the success of 2013’s Playwright Festival, which involved audience members standing and sitting on the floor to watch two original one-act plays, SHU Drama is again highlighting the talent of performers and new writers.
Three one-act plays will be performed, as well as comedy short 10 Ways to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse by Don Zolidis. Audiences will also hear monologues and showcases of musicals, comedy sketches and dramatic scenes.
Event producer Michael Hudson said: “Thestival is a fantastic opportunity to prove the range of talents from our members. The three-day event has real highs and lows in terms of emotion and will have audiences laughing at Blackadder one moment to then holding back tears hearing a monologue from a worried housewife.”
In true festival style, audience members can by a £3 ticket for one performance or a £7 wristband for the entire festival. Thestival opens tonight at 7pm with the first piece at 7.30pm. Friday and Saturday evening shows also begin at 7.30pm. Saturday’s matinee starts at 2.30pm.
