A FORMER Sheffield art gallery director is returning to the city for an exhibition of his latest photographs exploring Sheffield’s green spaces.
Matthew Conduit, who used to be a director at the Site Gallery, studied fine art at Sheffield Hallam University in the early 1980s before showing his work around the UK and Europe.
His new exhibition, Chora, is running at the university’s Sheffield Institute of Arts Gallery, in the Furnival Building, until September 7.
Chora is an ancient Greek word referring to the countryside surrounding a city, and the show is Matthew’s first for over 20 years.
The photos include detailed, large-scale works of woodlands, wastelands and scrubland around the edge of Sheffield, including pictures of Lathkill Dale in the Peak District. A book of the work will be launched alongside the exhibition.
The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm daily, including weekends, and until 8pm on Wednesdays.
