GOOD luck to former Sheffield reporter Fern Brady who competes in the final of the UK’s leading new act comedy competition So You Think You’re Funny tonight.
She has seen off hundreds of other contestants and is now just one step away from following in the footsteps of previous winners Peter Kay, Dylan Moran, Rhona Cameron and former Sheffield teacher Rob Rouse.
The final takes place at the Edinburgh Fringe with another previous victor, Lee Mack, one of the judges.
“This time last year, as a former journalist, I was interviewing the 2009 winner of SYTYF for the comedy magazine I worked for,” says Fern. “I never expected to find myself in the semi-finals of the same competition one year on.”
Journey men’s civic reception
A FOREIGNERS Journey - Europe’s only dual tribute to classic rock acts Foreigner and Journey - play their home town at Doncaster Civic Theatre on September 9.
It’s been a big year for the band having recently returned from playing a headline slot at this year’s Rhodes Rock 2011 and also appearing at the Farmyard Party, one of the biggest bike rallies in Europe, and the Rock & Bike festival with The Quireboys.
The Civic show, which also features The Thin Lizzy Experience, is part of Northern Rail’s selected promotional events for this year’s St Leger race meeting, on the same weekend.
