Works by literary greats such as Charles Dickens, William Shakespeare, Albert Camus and Ian McMilllan will be performed on the Barnsley Civic stage this autumn.

Dickens and Shakespeare will be cleverly condensed into two fast-paced ‘pocket-size’ performances, followed by a mid-week theatre treat from award-winning national touring theatre company Pilot Theatre. And there will also be a libretto from the acclaimed poet, civic champion and Barnsley Bard Ian McMillan.

Dickens Abridged is a fast-paced musical comedy, while Propeller’s Pocket Merchant, a condensed version of The Merchant of Venice, visits The Civic for its only date in Yorkshire. Outsiders, a reimagining of Camus’s classic story L’Etranger, comes next from Pilot Theatre while a mixture of breath-taking illusions and trickery, an original musical score and a libretto from Ian McMillan make up the new production from the award winning Proper Job Theatre Company.

All shows are at The Civic. Dickens Abridged is on September 25 at 7.30pm, Pocket Merchant is on October 2 at 7.30pm, Outsiders is on October 7 at 7.30pm and Nosferatu is on October 10 at 7.30pm.
