A children’s performing arts school in Sheffield is offering West End-inspired summer workshops to spark interest in musical theatre.

Noodle Performance Arts will run the three sessions, aimed at children of six and over, at Beighton Lifestyle Centre.

Noodle Performance Arts is holding fairy schools during the summer holidays, where children will learn how to be a fairy and meet Tinker Bell.

Each four-hour workshop will see children learn the musical numbers and dance routines of a specific musical, to perform to their parents.

The first session, on Tuesday, August 11, will be a Mamma Mia! workshop, looking at the hit show based on songs by Abba. On Tuesday, August 18, it will be a We Will Rock You workshop, looking at the musical based on the songs of Queen, before the final Shrek workshop on Friday, August 21.

The workshops will run from 10.30am to 2.30pm and children attend without their parents.

Nikki Johnson, who founded Noodle Performance Arts in September 2011 to teach children performing arts in a fun, informal and affordable way, said the workshops were a great way to introduce children to West End shows.

She said: “Noodle has been running holiday clubs for a while now and the sessions are always great fun and very popular. This year, we thought it would be a wonderful idea to give children the chance to get to grips with some amazing musicals straight from the West End.

“Singing, dance and drama help build children’s confidence and self-esteem. Our workshops are suitable for all abilities and are about taking part, having fun and trying something new.”

In addition to the West End workshops, Noodle is running three holiday clubs for children aged three to eight. The three-hour sessions are suitable for both girls and boys and run from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Parents can leave their children at the sessions and simply collect them at the end.

At the Noodle Fairy Schools, children will learn how to be a fairy and meet Tinker Bell herself in a series of games and activities. The first fairy school will be held on Friday, July 24, at Handsworth Methodist Church, while the second is on Thursday, August 20 at Ecclesall Church Hall.

On Tuesday, August 25, youngsters can meet Spiderman and Batman at a special Superhero school. The themed session will take place at Beighton Lifestyle Centre.

The Fairy and Superhero Schools both cost £15 each, while the West End workshops cost £22.50 per session. A booking fee is payable and there are discounts for siblings attending the same sessions.
