From Hollyoaks to Hollywood, Sheffield-born starlet Elizabeth Henstridge is making waves across the pond.
The 26-year-old former Meadowhead School pupil is on track for the A-list after landing her big break in big budget TV show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, based on the Marvel Comics adventures.
After playing Emily Alexander in Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks she went to try her luck in the States. The gamble paid off and she has gone from the floor of a friend’s LA apartment to featuring in 9ft billboards on the Boulevard as Agent Jemma Simmons.
But despite the success of the show, her mum Dr Marion Sloan insists the Bradway girl’s feet are firmly on the ground.
Dr Sloan, based at the Sloan Medical Practice in Nether Edge, said: “All of a sudden she’s going to these red carpet events. It’s a different world out there.
“She’s getting recognised more and more, the show has a huge fan base.
“It just shows Sheffield can be a springboard to the top, but Elizabeth is still a Sheffield girl at heart.
“At Christmas she was home for three weeks, though she was more interested in seeing the dogs than me!”
Dr Sloan is now hoping Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D gets a second series - and admits she still tries to tempt her famous daughter to find a more stable profession.
Her sisters Catherine, aged 32, and Helen, 29, are both vets.
She said:”I worry because you can be riding high one minute and then it can all go the next. I still say to her she’d make a great GP.
“She’s had to register herself as a limited company now, that’s what they all have to do, and she called it Proper Job because that’s what I say to her!”
