A fashion designer who set up her label in a shed at the bottom of her garden in Rotherham has hit the big time.
Lucy Bennett’s Roc and Doll label is about to be stocked by a designer retailer in Meadowhall.
Lucy, originally from Kimberworth, won her place on the rails at the hip designer store Fashion Rocks, alongside clothes from the likes of Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood.
She won Meadowhall’s ‘In New Designers We Trust’ event, a contest between four up-and-coming Yorkshire designers, including Sheffielder Keeley Hardy and her brand, Harpers Womenswear.
As part of the initiative, designers were given exclusive access to an experienced panel of mentors.
Lucy, who launched her label seven years ago after graduating in fashion at the University of Huddersfield, will be working with Fashion Rocks to launch a spring/summer 2012 collection as a concession in the Meadowhall branch early next year.
She said: “I am so thrilled. To be given a big break like this is priceless.”
