Hand-made won a style contest for racegoer Selena Crossland.

The Mexborough hairdresser went off to the races in a dress made by her sister and their mum – and scooped the ‘Best Dressed Lady’ crown.

Selena, aged 32, who owns Selena’s Hair Boutique in Balby, won at Pontefract’s recent Ladies Day fixture.

Her prize included a £500 Spa experience package and betting vouchers.

She also qualifies for a place in the final to find the Best Dressed Lady Racegoer in Yorkshire at Doncaster Racecourse on September 8, during the St Leger Festival.

Selena’s mother and sister’s handiwork was topped by a hat made by Mexborough milliner Julie Walker.

Angela Edwards and granddaughter Jasmine from Bentley were joint runners up. Another heat will be staged on Ladies’ Day at the Ebor at York Racecourse this week. And women will have another chance to score in the style stakes because Debenhams’ new Fashion On The Field team will also be hunting for best dressed racegoers. Judges include designers Matthew Williamson, John Rocha and Ben de Lisi. Prizes include £500 shopping sprees and Jimmy Choo shoes.
