Two Rossington residents, Jonathon Smith and Lucy Grant, will see their artwork distributed on postcards throughout the district, following their triumph in a local competition as part of Right Up Our Street, a three year programme aimed at developing participation in the arts in Doncaster.
The Rossington Postcard Competition was run by arts supporter Katherine Warman, to encourage local people to get creative. This followed on from her own four week residency, drawing the locals at Rossington’s Market Café and the free drop in drawing sessions that happen on Tuesday evenings in Rossington.
The winners, Jonathon Smith (18+ category) and Lucy Grant (under 18s category) have created eye catching postcards that represent different art forms, and local landmarks from Rossington or Doncaster. Along with the postcard design, the winners both received tickets to productions of their choice at Cast in Doncaster.
Taxi driver Jonathon, 33, said: “I was over the moon when I found out I’d won. I’m hoping to become a tattoo artist, and this will give me a real boost towards making that goal a reality. My two children are looking forward to watching The Wizard of Oz at Cast with the tickets I won too.”
Twelve-year-old student Lucy Grant from Rossington All Saints Academy was delighted and surprised with her win and a presentation of her achievement will be organised at the school.
The two winning designs will be printed onto A6 postcards and distributed throughout Rossington and beyond to promote Right Up Our Street.
