Chesterfield Council is to hold a day of dance events to encourage residents in the town to get moving.
The event will take place on Saturday, September 7, between 10.30am and 3.30pm in Rykneld Square.
The Day of Dance will feature a variety of dance styles, from tango to ballet. Among those performing are the Barlborough Bears with a fusion of ballet, jazz, and street dance. Newcomers The Romano Jilo Dance Group will be showcasing their Romany dancing.
Coun Amanda Serjeant, Chesterfield Council’s executive member for leisure, culture and tourism, said: “The Day of Dance is a chance to celebrate the many different dance styles we have on offer in Chesterfield and the surrounding areas.
“It’s not just a great event to watch but hopefully will inspire our residents and visitors to take up a new hobby that’s fun and can help improve overall fitness.”
The performances will begin at 10.30am with the Chesterfield Caledonian Dance Class.
That will be followed by displays of tango, salsa, belly dance, Zumba and Irish dancing, among others.
The final performance is at 3.10pm and will feature students from the Sheena Wallace School of Dance
There is also an opportunity to see this year’s well dressing display, by the Market Pump. The display is on show from Saturday, September 7, to Saturday, September 14.
The theme of the well dressing is Doctor Who, to mark the BBC programme’s 50th anniversary.
