Despite the amount of flesh bared on a Saturday night in South Yorkshire, the naked truth is British women are covering up.
Research by Paris fashion house Georgede shows UK women choose skirts and dresses that are 10cms longer than those worn by women in Germany, Holland, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and the Scandinavian countries. The only country with comparable skirt lengths was Luxembourg.
The shortest hemlines are worn in France and Italy with Spain and Germany close behind, if you’ll excuse the pun.
Phillip Bendavid of Georgede says: “It is very much the Kate effect. Kate Middleton and Kate Moss are leading the charge. Kate Moss’s recent comment that women should cover up more is very much a reflection of what is happening in the UK. Increasingly British women are becoming more conservative in the way they dress.
“The Duchess of Cambridge is definitely influencing the way British women are dressing. She covers up those areas that women are very conscious about.
The research also threw up evidence that UK women cover up because they are more conscious of their bodies than nearly every other European country.
