A FORMER Barnsley College student landed a dream work placement – on the set of a new high profile BBC drama.

Beauty student Amanda Mitchell, aged 20, was part of the make-up team on Dancing on the Edge, which began on BBC2 this week.

Amanda secured the placement with the help of Jennifer Lenard, one of the UK’s leading make-up artists.

She had attended a workshop about media make-up held by Jennifer at Barnsley College while still a student.

Amanda said: “It was the first time I had seen make-up used like that up close, I was amazed.

“After talking to Jennifer and my tutors at the time we found she had some opportunities for work placements.”

Amanda spent a weekend working on the set in Birmingham with Jennifer and other make-up artists.

The college’s enterprise department funded the placement through the college’s Enterprising Futures fund, which offers learners support for work experience.

Amanda said: “It was exciting, but hard work. It was good to see all the different things you can do and how what I learnt on my course carries through on set.”

The drama runs for the next three weeks.
