Artwork rejected by Museums Sheffield has gone on display at an alternative gallery in the city centre.

Mandy McCartin’s Tube Girlz piece was offered for display free of charge but management at the trust, which runs Graves and Millennium Galleries, and Weston Park Museum, said it did not fit in with their displays.

Firth Park-born Mandy’s creation - an image of teenage girls on the London underground - has instead been accepted by Snig Hill Gallery.

Oliver Dempsey, from Snig Hill Gallery, said: “The plight of Mandy McCartin is not an isolated case and is familiar to artists trying to break established notions of what is contemporary art.”
