Watch dog knows time

A Cambridge scientist believes pets are psychic. They can read your mind and they know when you’re on your way home.

Dr Rupert Sheldrake has been researching the subject for donkey’s years (I wonder if the donkey knew?). In 50 per cent of dog-owning households and 30 per cent of those with cats, the animals were said to anticipate the arrival of a family member, he says.

I think our dog Harry is even smarter than that. His sixth-sense having picked up our imminent arrival, he affects total disinterest and heads for the living room.

We find him, feigning sleep on the sofa he’s not supposed to be on. Our telepathic connection tells me he’s saying: “You left me, so I’ll do as I damned well please.’
