Obsessed designer labels Adele fat

Adele fans are enraged.

Their chanteuse has been labelled fat by the boss at Chanel.

The tragedy is, designer Karl Lagerfeld was trying to be nice.

“Beautiful face and a divine voice,” he said of Adele in a Parisian newspaper article, before taking a side-swipe at her weight.

I doubt the lass herself will give a damn, though. The comment says more about him than it does her.

The fact that Lagerfeld can be so rude is because he is just as much a victim of his industry as those Size Zero catwalk waifs. His entire world thrives on image obsession. He doesn’t think it hurts to label someone too fat. He probably does it every day, while ticking off some waif of a clothes horse for daring to turn up with breasts.

Who would you rather be: a happy in her own skin 23-year-old who says: “I enjoy being me; I always have done. I’ve seen people where it rules their lives, who want to be thinner or have bigger boobs and how it wears them down. And I just don’t want that in my life.”

Or a narcissistic, weight-obsessed 78-year-old who a few years ago forced himself to lose 92lb in order to squeeze into clothes 50 years too young for him. And who admits he now eats next to nothing to stop the pounds piling back on.

What’s the point, though, of urging fans to boycott Chanel in support of Adele, who sings on Sunday at the Grammy Awards? We can’t afford much more than a CC-logoed lippie. There can’t be enough profit in them to keep him in sunglasses.
